EXHIBITION, RESTORATION COMPETITIONS, ORIGINALITY AND ELEGANCE OF THE MADEIRA CLASSIC CAR REVIVAL AND RE-ENACTMENT OF THE RAMPA DOS BARREIROS

 

The Madeira Classic Car Revival (hereinafter referred to as MCCR) or event is an initiative jointly promoted by the Clube de Automóveis Clássicos da Madeira (hereinafter referred to as CACM) and the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Environment and Culture, with the support of the Funchal City Council and the Parish Council of Sé, with the objective of showcasing and awarding the best and most elegant vintage and classic vehicles (hereinafter referred to as vehicles) of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

This edition of the MCCR will take place from May 22 to May 24, 2026 and includes the Rampa dos Barreiros, which will take place on May 24.

The events will have CACM as the organizing entity.

Participation in the event implies the unequivocal knowledge and acceptance of the provisions set out in this Regulation.

 

REGULATIONS FOR THE RAMPA DOS BARREIROS

This regulation is specific and exclusively of interest to those participating in the hill climb. It is mandatory reading for those who register and is available on the FPAK website and at CACM.

 

MCCR REGULATIONS

1 – The MCCR will take place in downtown Funchal, occupying the entire garden and square area in front of the city bay, along Avenida do Mar, between the Sá Carneiro Roundabout and Praça da Autonomia. Praça do Povo will be the location where the competitions will take place, where the vehicles competing for awards, invited vehicles, tribute vehicles and previous winners (Best of Show) will be exhibited. In front of the Regional Assembly will take place the parade of the winners and the award ceremony.

2 – The organization will select the members of the “support team” and define the respective programme, which will be disclosed upon its presentation and which may include, among other activities, the launch of specific publications, autograph sessions and lectures, the exhibition of vintage and classic vehicles, the presentation of restoration projects, the presence of one or more guests of honour, an automotive fair, various competitions, the carrying out of tributes, in addition to the “Elegance, Restoration and Originality Competitions”.

3 – It is the responsibility of the organization to coordinate the support team and assign the respective competencies and functions to its members.

4 – Entries to the event will be accepted for vintage and classic vehicles produced up to 1996, namely: light and heavy vehicles, including off-road vehicles, buses and other specific-use vehicles (agricultural, ambulances, fire brigade, etc.), motorcycles and bicycles, provided that they are duly restored, their originality is maintained, and they are properly prepared for public exhibition.

It should be noted that vehicles from 1986 to 1996 may only be admitted to the exhibition upon presentation, at the time of registration, of a Certificate of Historical Interest, after which they will be subject to an evaluation by the organization. Photographs of the certificate and of the exterior and interior of the vehicles must be submitted.

Failure to comply with these requirements will result in exclusion from the Madeira Classic Car Revival 2026.

5 – There will also be a group of vehicles designated as pre-classic, which, being prestigious vehicles from the years 1996 to 2002, may be exhibited in a specific location, as decided by the organization, and whose registration will occur only by invitation.

6 – The organization may decide to include or invite other more recent vehicles, if it considers that their historical interest, rarity or quality justifies it.

7 – Vehicles to be exhibited require prior registration in the event, and participation will depend on validation (invitation) by the organization.

 

I – Registration for the event is free of charge.

II – Registrations result from invitations issued by the organization.

III – Registration dates are available on the CACM website and Facebook page.

 

8 – Those interested in participating in the various initiatives that make up the programme, namely the Automotive Fair or Restoration Project Showcase, must express such interest during the aforementioned period and must also assume and guarantee all the necessary means for the implementation of their participation, namely those defined within the scope of public exhibition in the areas determined by the organization.

The organization shall not be responsible for any damage, theft or loss of the exhibited material during the exhibition period, nor for any occurrences resulting from transport to and from the location designated by the organization.

 

9 – The formalization of registration in the event results from the acceptance of the invitation received and must be completed through the submission of the Electronic Registration Form available on the website designated by the organization. After a period of five working days, the participant must confirm their registration on the participants’ list. If it is not listed, an email must be sent to (direcao@cacm.pt) reporting the situation.

10 – The electronic submission of the Registration Form records the intention of voluntary participation in the event and is considered to replace the signature of the interested party.

11 – The various clubs, groups and associations of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM), namely: Amigos das Bicicletas Antigas – Madeira; Amigos Japoneses Antigos; Amigos FIAT Madeira; Amigos Peugeot Antigos da Madeira; BMW Clube Madeira; Clube Carocha da Madeira; Clube Mini Madeira; Clube Land Rover da Madeira; Grupo MG Madeira; Espaço Ford Madeira; Grupo Volvo; Mercedes Benz Clube Portugal; Motorizada Clube da Madeira; Squadra Alfa Romeo Madeira; Porsche Clube Madeira; SuperCarros; Vespa Amigos Madeira; Motas Clássicas, AMTT; Associação de Motociclismo da Madeira; among others, will be invited with the aim of encouraging the participation in the event of vehicles belonging to their members and supporters, subject to compliance with the present regulations.

12 – In order to promote greater inclusiveness, the organization may invite the best competition vehicles from the region to participate in the event.

13 – One or more prestigious brands may be present at the event as supporters, to whom a specific space will be assigned, which may or may not be identified with the name of the respective brand.

14 – The organization may or may not reserve a specific space for the celebration of anniversaries related to various commemorations or even to brand or model anniversaries.

15 – The organization may limit the number of participants, depending on the space allocated to the event.

16 – Vehicles will be exhibited according to the guidelines defined by the organization for the respective edition. Participants must be present strictly between 07:00 and 09:00 and must occupy the position assigned by the organization. The assigned number and location must be respected, and the vehicle must remain in place until the time defined for departure, unless otherwise indicated by the organization.

17 – During the day, at a time to be defined by the organization, the following will take place: “Best of Show Competition”; “Originality Competition”; and “Elegance Competition”.

18 – The “Best of Show Competition” encompasses the vehicles competing for the best restoration award. From these, the organization will select the best, namely 5 (five) to 8 (eight) automobiles, 6 (six) motorcycles (being two motorcycles, two mopeds and two scooters, and among these, at least one motorcycle or moped must be Portuguese), and 3 (three) bicycles, which will be displayed in a prominent location at Praça do Povo. The respective juries will choose the vehicle which, in their opinion, deserves the award, taking into account the quality of its restoration, its age, and the difficulty involved in its recovery.

I – From among the vehicles exhibited, the jury may select one or more vehicles to compete for the respective award.

II – The pre-selected vehicles will be displayed in a location to be defined by the organization, where their respective owners, or their representatives, must remain in order to accompany and facilitate the jury’s access to them, within the schedule established for the respective inspection.

III – The vehicles pre-selected for the “Best of Show Competition” (automobiles, motorcycles and bicycles) will parade on the runway at Praça do Povo, according to the route defined and indicated by the organization for this purpose, thus being presented to the jury, invited guests and the general public. This parade will take place before the final award ceremony.

IV – The winning vehicles will, at the end, circulate once again along the same route for the awarding of the respective prizes

 

19 – The jury of the “Best of Show Competition” shall be composed of technical experts, preferably and whenever possible from outside the Autonomous Region of Madeira, who will classify the vehicles according to the following parameters:

 

I – Automobiles

International criteria for this type of competition will be followed. The jury will indicate the three best automobiles in the “Best of Show Competition”, from which the winning automobile will be chosen by secret vote.

 

II – Motorcycles

  1. a) General appearance;
  2. b) Paintwork;
  3. c) Engine;
  4. d) Instruments;
  5. e) Upholstery;
  6. f) Tyres and wheels.

 

III – Bicycles

  1. a) General appearance;
  2. b) Paintwork;
  3. c) Upholstery;
  4. d) Tyres and wheels.

 

For each of these parameters (motorcycles and bicycles), a score from 0 to 100 (in increasing order of importance) will be applied, and the vehicle with the highest score will be the winner.

In the event of a tie, the “Best of Show” vehicle will be chosen by secret vote among the members of the jury.

 

20 – The jury of the “Originality Competition” shall be composed of an odd number of personalities not belonging to the organization, invited by it, and who are individuals linked to different fields of activity.

The winning vehicle will be the most voted among those exhibited and considered the “Most Original” of the event.

In the event of a tie, the winning vehicle will be chosen by secret vote among the members of the “Best of Show” jury and one member of the organization.

 

21 – The jury of the “Elegance Competition” shall be composed of an odd number of personalities not belonging to the organization, invited by it, and who are individuals linked to different fields of activity.

The winning vehicle will be the most voted among those exhibited and considered the “Most Elegant” of the event.

In the event of a tie, the winning vehicle will be chosen by secret vote among the members of the “Best of Show” jury and one member of the organization.

 

22 – Participating vehicles will be grouped, according to criteria defined by the organization, into the following classes:

 

Class A – Automobiles;
Class B – Motorcycles;
Class C – Bicycles;
Class D – Other vehicles.

 

23 – The following prizes will be awarded to the winners of each competition:

 

Class A

  1. a) “Best of Show”;
  2. b) “Originality Competition”;
  3. c) “Elegance Competition”.

 

Class B

  1. a) “Best of Show”;
  2. b) “Originality Competition”;
  3. c) “Elegance Competition”;
  4. d) “Best Portuguese Moped”;
  5. e) “Best Scooter”.

 

Class C

  1. a) “Best of Show”;
  2. b) “Originality Competition”;
  3. c) “Elegance Competition”.

 

For all pre-selected vehicles, except the awarded ones:

  1. “Merit Medal”.

 

All vehicles participating in the event will receive the respective “Participation Certificate”.

 

Vehicles that have won any of the “Best of Show” awards in any class and in any edition of the event shall be designated as “Masters”. In subsequent editions, a specific space at Praça do Povo will be reserved for them, and they may be admitted to compete again only from the fifth edition following the one in which they were distinguished.

This rule for re-admission to competition also applies to all vehicles that have won the “Originality” and “Most Elegant” awards in any of the classes provided for in this regulation.

 

24 – The award ceremony for all distinguished vehicles will take place at Praça do Povo, at a time to be defined by the organization, and the vehicles must be present according to the instructions provided by the organization.

 

25 – The vehicles on display must be removed from the event location in accordance with the organization’s instructions, allowing for the realization of a final parade.

For participants with more than one vehicle, the organization recommends anticipating this operation by resorting to other duly licensed drivers, with the sole purpose of ensuring compliance with the defined schedules.

 

26 – The exhibition area of the vehicles may be delimited in order to prevent direct contact by the public. Access to this area shall be granted only to members of the organization, the owner or their representative, and/or the accompanying team, as well as the competition juries.

27 – The organization ensures security/policing for the vehicles that will remain overnight at Praça do Povo. This space will be enclosed and the vehicles will be covered during the night.

The organization shall not be held responsible for any personal injury, nor for any damage, theft or loss caused to participating vehicles, nor for any items left inside them, nor for any decorative accessories.
